Rahsaan Roland Kirk Roland Kirk, who began recording in 1956, had been an ideal sideman for Charles Mingus, appearing on the 1961 release, Oh Yeah. In the 1960s, he established himself in the first tier of jazz players with a series of well-received records for Mercury and Limelight before settling into a decade-long relationship with Atlantic. Most people's Essential Roland Kirk Albums lists will likely include some if not most of the following: Kirk's Work (Prestige, 1961), We Free Kings (Mercury, 1961), Domino (Mercury, 1962), I Talk With The Spirits (Limelight, 1964), Rip, Rig & Panic (Limelight, 1965), the aforementioned Here Comes The Whistleman, The Inflated Tear (Atlantic, 1967), Volunteered Slavery (Atlantic, 1969), Blacknuss (Atlantic, 1972) and Compliments Of The Mysterious Phantom (Hyena, recorded 1974, released 2003). Rahsaan Roland Kirk (7 agosto 1936 -- 5 dicembre 1977) è stato un flautista, sassofonista e polistrumentista jazz statunitense.

Blind since childhood, Kirk developed a unique sensitivity to sound that he parlayed into all sorts of interesting ideas, most notably the ability to play two or three instruments simultaneously.
